The goal of this sermon is to introduce Mark and through him to introduce you to the Jesus upon whom our faith is set. The first verse of his book is designed to give us a big picture view of why he is writing and what he intends to say. He seeks to answer who Jesus is and then to call his readers to respond to his answer. This message was intended to encourage those who thought they were ill-prepared for this trip or ill prepared to evangelize to their next door neighbor. While it is true that we are clay pots and therefore inadequate for the task, we have been filled with an invaluable treasure and have been given the power of the Holy Spirit to shine the light in dark places. God chooses whether to lift the veil from unseeing eyes, but he privileges us with the task of taking the words to them. We are actually called to open people's eyes and God chooses to use us in order that he might get the greatest glory.
