Not Far from the Kingdom of God (Mark 12:28-34)

Presented by Jace Broadhurst

October 18, 2009, 1:22 pm

Charles Wesley spent his whole life fervently obeying the commands of God. But he didn't know God. I wonder how many people do all the right things but don't really know God. This message from Mark 12, is about a scribe who will come and ask Jesus to summarize the law. His answer is beautiful and glorious. But this man, who spent his life "knowing" God, was still outside the kingdom. If you have friends that know all the right theological words, and can sing all the hymns without looking and live decent and moral lives, but you sincerely wonder if they know Jesus, the king of the universe, this might be a good sermon to listen to or to give to them. I hope you are encouraged.

Is there a resurrection? Demons, bran muffins and sad religious leaders oh my (Mark 11:18-27)

Presented by Jace Broadhurst

October 11, 2009, 9:08 am

This Sunday we are going to talk about bran muffins, some pretty messed up demons, and warrior mice. How do those three fit together? Well, you have to listen to find out. If you ever feel down living in this messed up world, listen up because this week Jesus will set things straight about our future. Some "sad" religious leaders will question him about the resurrection and his reply is more than a bit stern. While the immediate listeners were probably angry and discouraged, we who listen in, from the sometimes hard Shadowland existence, will leave here longing and anticipating our future home. Feel free to join us in Mark 12:18-27 as we walk through the word of God.

Rendering Unto Ceaser: Being Sick and Tired of Uncle Sam (Mark 12:13-17)

Presented by Jace Broadhurst

October 4, 2009, 7:34 am

The Government is doing some really dumb things right now. That has probably been true under every leader throughout the history of time--whether political, religious, economic or just local family leaders. Leaders sometimes do dumb things. But our governement supports abortion and minimizes marriage. And we keep sending them money and they keep using it to do abominable things. How should we feel about this? What should we do about it? There is a piece of the answer found in Mark 12:13-17 and I would encourage you to dig in.

Parable of the Tenants (Mark 11:27-12:12

Presented by Jace Broadhurst

September 27, 2009, 12:48 pm

This week our worship is prompted by a parable that Jesus told about some tenant farmers who treated the owner of their rented vineyard despicably. They beat, mocked and even killed his servants and finally they even killed his son. This is a story about remarkable grace that seems to have no end and then it is about a very real end -- the destruction of the farmers. The vineyard has been handed over to new tenants and the question I think Mark implies to us, is "what will we do with the vineyard?" "What will we do with the life we have been given?"
