In Exodus 2, Moses' life is just beginning but already his titles are being given as a foreshadowing of who he will be. He is a priest in that his parents are levites and he will one day intercede for his people. He is a new creation in that he is called good/fine (just as creation is in Gen 1). He is a prophet in that he is likened to Noah the preacher of righteousness (2 Peter) in that both were placed in an ark. He is a king in his likening to the ancient King Sargon in being floated down a river. finally he gets a new name--the one who is drawn out which foreshadows the fact that he will be the one to draw Israel out of Egypt through the water. Jesus holds each of these titles as well and is the antitype of Moses. We too are new creations, new prophets, priests and kings, and we are given a new name. This Anti-God force attempts three times to destroy the future of Israel and fails in these attempts. We are reminded that God is never thwarted. He is sovereign over all kings and all chaos. This has already been affectionately called the K sermon. Part of the Exodus series. Indiana Jones walks us through his research as he looks for the staff of the ineffable name which according to legend comes from the tree of life. What he finds is that the garden is a picture of the tabernacle which is a picture of the temple which is a picture of Christ who is the final temple. He also finds that Christians are called the temple of the holy spirit and continue to be where the presence of the Lord dwells among man. Part of the Exodus series. It reminds Israel that their future is directly connected to their past. We too are reminded that the covenants of Genesis and Exodus continue for us (although more fully revealed) and that our future is also contingent on his past fulfilled promises. Our past is in Adam and therefore sin has been imputed to us, but it is also in the new Adam in whom we are justified. We are a new creation. Part of the Exodus series.
