At Sinai, God revealed himself to his people and this theophany was so powerful and scary that the people begged for Moses to mediate. The heart of Gods relationship is found here in Exodus 19:4-6 and it is here that he calls us a kingdom of priests, a holy nation and what was emphasized the most in this sermon--a special treasure. Hopefully this will be a reminder for all the miserable failures out there who do not live up to Gods law (that everybody), that Christ kept the law perfectly and took our punishment allowing us to truly be something special to God. Israel chose elders from among themselves and they were consecrated to do the work of leadership and to help Moses in his task.
